Housing Assistance Program (HAP) rules have now been released by the government that should help eligible military personnel who are being reassigned and having to sell their property at a loss. Although the assistance was authorized under the economic stimulus act passed earlier this year, the rules to handle these benefits were only recently available. The HAP program is designed to assist those who bought their primary home before July 1, 2006, and were ordered at least 50 miles away on a permanent reassignment between February 1, 2006, and September 30, 2012.
